Asus 9.5hr 1000HE 10in 160GB Netbook $319.99 AR

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

Hey guys, great deal I found. It is an initial $379.99 with a 30 dollar MIR from ZipZoomFly, which brings it to $349.99. There is also an additional $30 dollars of when you use their eBillMe service. When I checked, they were even giving free shipping!

With all that, the grand total for this netbook to only $319.99 after rebates.

I have been shopping around for a nice lightweight laptop for myself recently. This thing seems to be one of the best netbooks out there right now. It has a large enough screen and keyboard that you wont have to strain. Yet it is small and light enough to still be super-portable. It has builtin bluetooth and wireless N (most netbooks don’t) and a UNHEARD OF 9.5 hour battery rating.

Even if the fudged the numbers a little (don’t they all?)… that is going to be a hard claim to beat. It sounds so good, I just ordered one myself. You should hop on this deal, before they sell out!

Updated Wordpress. New twitter page. Report any problems

    Friday, March 27th, 2009

    Hey there,

We’ve been working hard over here behind the scenes. We’re going to start posting more soon.

However, in the meantime… we have started posting brief sale announcements to our twitter page, since they take much less time to lay out and post. So, definately check that out.

As always, we’re only going to post deals we think are actually good products for good prices. We try very hard to not become another site that posts ‘just anything’ that happens to be on sale.

Free Drawing to Reward Our Patient Readers. We ARE still Alive and Kicking.

    Monday, January 19th, 2009

UPDATE: Our first giveaway (of many to come) has already started, be the first to post, and win your copy now!

Firstly, a big thank you to all our loyal readers who have continued to check in with us over the past few weeks. The holidays ended up overloading us over here, more than expected. However things are starting to slow down, and we’re finally starting to get caught up. A while back, we promised you some articles on getting good deals locally, and they’re still coming. Unfortunately we did not get them ready to post before the holiday rush.

We also had planned a special gift which was never even announced. It was originally planned to be either the week before or the week of Christmas. However, because of the holidays, there was an unexpected delay  in processing the licenses. So, unfortunately by the time they were in-hand, it was too late to be either a Christmas or Hanukkah gift. Once we missed the holidays it seemed less urgent, and got side tracked… sorry. We were going to wait for another holiday, but decided a gift is better late than never!

Some time within the next week or so, we are going to be announcing a drawing for 3 free licenses of GoodSync! The drawing will work as follows. Each of the licenses will be given to the people who post comments in the next post about the drawing which will be coming soon. This will likely be the very next post, however if we see something that is just too good to pass up, we will post it first.

The way the drawing will work is as follows: The first person to comment will receive one license. The remaining two will be given to either the best comment (see below, chosen by us), or chosen by random. Which of these two methods we use will be loosely based on the quality and quantity of the comments posted.

When you make your post be SURE to include a VALID email address. This address will not be shown publicly, and you will not receive any spam from us; however, if you do not include a real email address, we will have no way to send you your registration information.

For anyone who doesn’t win, does not want to wait, or needs more than one license; you can always go to the GoodSync website and apply the coupon NEVRG during checkout and you will receive 20% off your whole order.

The most popular uses for GoodSync, in my experience, is the ability to sync your My Documents and/or RoboForm data to a external/flash drive automatically. This is absolutely critical if you make frequent use of the ‘generate’ function in RoboForm when creating new logins. If you do not have your RoboForm data backed up, a hard drive crash could be even more devastating! It is also quite useful to sync your data between RoboForm desktop and RoboForm2Go (usb/u3), so that you have the same information at home and on the road.

My two favorite features are the ability to run when you insert a usb drive, and the option to to ‘tag’ the sync directories. This makes routine backups nearly completely automated. The tagging is to prevent syncing to an incorrect drive that has stolen the original drive letter.

For those who want to prepare for the drawing could do a couple things.

    1. You should add our feed to your favorite rss reader.
    2. You should either check it, or our site, frequently to make sure you are the first one to comment on it.
    3. Download GoodSync from their site and give it a try. The trial version works quite well, and gives you a very good feel for the program. When you register it (or win the drawing) it will remove all the various file/size limitations which come with the free version.
    4. If you would like to do a simple ‘give me free stuff’, or ‘NeverPayeTail is so awesome’ comment, that is perfectly acceptable. You may still win that way. However those who posted a detailed comment will be given priority.
    5. Telling us how awesome our site is will certainly not hurt; but it will likely not be the deciding factor.

The request at the end of the post announcing the drawing will be to write a comment detailing why you like, or would like to have GoodSync. You could also post about what you plan on using it for. We would also love to hear your comparisons (both positive and negative) between GoodSync and other competing products.

If a post stands out as being especially detailed, useful, thought out, or any other consideration we may make up… That person will likely win one of the licenses before any one line comment. Again, you do not HAVE to post a detailed comment, and writing one does not GUARANTEE you to win the drawing. However, those who do will get extra brownie points, and we all know that everybody loves brownies :-)

Finally, we have to get to the sticky stuff. If you are in any way related to anyone who helps maintain this site, anyone at SiberSystems, or any affiliate thereof, you ARE NOT eligible to enter, or win this drawing. Please refrain from doing so.

PS Feel free to comment below, but this is NOT the post to comment on, to win the drawing! It should be in the next week.

NO LINES! Black Friday sales without the wait at Amazon NOW!

    Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

Should you wait for Black friday? Cyber Monday? NO! Amazon just couldn’t wait to get started this year.

I looked around a little bit, and found dozens, possibly hundreds of items listed at steep discounts. They also have what they are calling "gold box" deals which get replaced every day at midnight… so check back daily for more great deals.

I saw everything from jewlery, watches, GPS units, printers, monitors, televisions, usb sticks, hard drives, memory… everything. Take a look around, and see if anything interests you. It beats the heck out of waiting in line for hours on friday. Then again, if you are particularly self loathing sort, you can buy from amazon AND wait in line for the best of both worlds!

Anyway, you better check them out quick… before the good stuff gets sold out. Also, remember to check our feed often, because we’re going to be announcing a lot of other black friday stuff very soon!

Note: Fixed link to amazons sale, sorry

Save money this Christmas by NOT shopping online?!

    Monday, October 13th, 2008

First off, we all love shopping online, why else would you be reading a site about never paying etail. I am also the first person to admit to being an addicted online shopper. There are no lines to wait in. I can buy anything at any time, day or night. To top it all of, the internet has nearly everything for sale at closeout prices. Though, this all leads to a fair share of, ‘What was I thinking when I ordered THAT’ moments as well.

With that said, there is a lot of negative points toward shopping online. In this article I will be laying out some of the situations that you may prefer shopping at the local B&M (Brick and Mortar) stores. Also, be sure to subscribe to our feed , because In the next article, I will lay out a few tips to make sure you get the best price locally, so that you’re not stuck paying retail.

The most apparent consequence of online shopping is that everything must be shipped. This problem is actually bigger than you might think. Obviously, there is the initial cost but that is often less than tax you would pay locally. Though, depending on your state, you may still owe this tax to the state directly, making for a sad day come tax time. Also, because of the shipping, there will be a delay lasting anywhere from 3 days, to 3 weeks, depending on where you purchase. The following are a few things you might want to consider:

    Returns and Defects

First, should you have any problems with the item you buy, there’s an additional shipping cost and delay. An online RMA could take three times as long as your initial order, and you are responsible to ship the product back to the seller/manufacturer. It should also be noted that the experience when returning something to a ‘household name’ like amazon, with a reputation to uphold, will give you a much lighter headache than a fly-by-night company that had THE BEST price. Many people I know have bought some mighty expensive paper weights in the quest of getting something ‘cheap.’

You should also keep in mind, the price you payed to have the item delivered to your door may be significantly lower than what you will pay to return it to them. This is because you do not ship in the massive bulks that online retailers do. In some cases, it may even be cheaper to toss the old one out and ORDER A NEW ONE!! I have, on more than one occasion ate the cost of something I ordered online when it subsequently failed.

Local wholesale clubs such as Sam’s Club or Costco have extremely consumer-centric return policies. You can usually return a item to a Sam’s Club YEARS after the original purchase. That is, assuming it has a defect (some may say this is optional), you have the receipt (their computers only track your purchases over the past year), and it is still under manufacturer warranty.

With few exceptions, making a return at a local B&M store is relatively painless, and costs you absolutely nothing, not even shipping. This can lead to huge savings when purchasing something large such as a TV. Imagine the shipping costs to return a very bulky plasma television across many states without a bulk shipping account.

    Small items

Secondly, if you have a habit of buying small, inexpencive items, such as  cables, fans, adapters, etc, your online shipping costs will skyrocket fast. Many online retailers, including ones known for being the cheapest, can charge as much as twice the cost of some items for shipping. This is because the package still takes up room on the truck. No matter how light it is, the freight company has to charge for weight as well as the space the box takes up.

    Bad shipping calculators

If you plan on doing bulk orders for the items mentioned above, you may be in for more than you bargained for. These items are extremely small, as well as lightweight. Because of this you can fit many of them into a single box and the cost per items approaches 0 when you order in bulk. However someone forgot to tell this little ’secret’ to most online shopping carts. This is even true with many online stores known for their low costs. This is also somewhat true with slightly larger items, but it is especially true on these small, light weight items.

Very few carts will calculate the overall size and weight of the items. In fact, most shopping carts are used as simple calculators multiplying single unit costs. A human would easily know that 30 loose cables fit into a single box, and would probably weigh less than the cardboard that packages them. Most shopping carts are not that smart.

Let’s put this into perspective… Let’s say the per-unit shipping on an item was 4 dollars. A human would likely charge you 6, maybe 7 dollars total, because of the added weight, since the additional items did not add any bulk to the box. However, most shopping carts will just multiply the shipping cost by 30 cables. You would end up paying 120 dollars for shipping !!!!

In this case, you have lost over $110 dollars. All for the convenience to avoid a line at 3 in the morning sitting in a comfy chair with your pants off. For you rich folk out there, that may sound like a deal… but I will pass.

    Summary

So, basicly what I’m trying to tell you this shopping season is this: Take the time to think about all aspects of your purchase before checking out (both online and locally). If you use your head, buying ‘online’ items online, and ‘local’ items locally, you will save a significant amount of money over the next few months.

Also make SURE you keep checking in, because In my next post I will walk you through some good tips and tricks to make sure you get your money’s worth when you do need to shop locally.
